ROAR

All things are possible for one who believes – Mark 9:23

At Waverley Abbey, we want learners to be confident, resilient and be able to work well in a team. In Year 5 we give our children the opportunity to develop these skills through ROAR; an entrepreneurial competition run by the Farnham Lions and 7billionideas. From September to December, children are inspired to think about a world changing idea, which subsequently gets them to empathise with world issues, such as climate change, healthy eating and homelessness. They then create a jingle, model and poster to advertise their idea and compete with other schools from Surrey and Sussex in a final.

From having run the competition this year, it has proved to be engaging, stimulating and thought-provoking, whilst also allowing the children to develop their friendships with children from other classes. Children have completed the competition feeling that they have improved their confidence and are more inclined to tackle challenges and setbacks with a more pro-active approach.
