Local Governing Committee
Waverley Abbey Church of England Junior School
Local Governing Committee 2019 - 2020
Waverley Abbey C of E Junior School became part of the Good Shepherd Trust (GST) on 1st December 2016 after the governing body had made the decision to move into a forward looking trust to further develop and improve the school and support other schools with the expertise developed at Waverley Abbey.
The functions of the Trust Board of the Good Shepherd Trust are to lead strategy development, hold the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and his team to account, operate within financial constraints, define an overall vision for GST schools, meet the governance compliance required by law and create a strong, effective governance structure on the board and in schools. Further information about the GST can be found on the Good Shepherd Trust tab on the parents’ Information page.
The Trust has given the Local Governing Committee (LGC) a scheme of delegation which shows what the LGC is responsible for. The scheme of delegation can be found on the Good Shepherd Trust tab on the Parents’ Information page.
The Local Governing Committee, in common with all those who govern in schools, adhere to the three core functions detailed in The governance handbook, March 2019 and A competency framework for governors January 2017:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
The Local Governing Committee (LGC) meets once every half term to ensure that standards of achievement and attainment are being raised, that the school development plan is being evaluated, that school finances are being used effectively, that safeguarding all children and staff is up to date.
The LGC has an Admissions committee where the policy is updated and sent to the GST board for determination and ensures that offers are made subject to the criteria agreed in the policy.
The LGC Pay committee meets when necessary to seek assurance that performance management is effective and to receive recommendations for staff salary increases in line with the GST pay policy.
There is a group of Local Governing Committee members who will convene when necessary for any appeals or complaints.
