Friends of Waverley Abbey

Registered Charity: 1148144

FOWA (Friends of Waverley Abbey) is the school's PTA. Every parent with a child at the school is automatically a member and their contribution is vital to its success. The emphasis is on partnership between home and school.

Our aim is to bring together pupils, teachers and parents through fun, informal events and to raise funds for the benefit of all the children in the school.

We hold general meetings twice a term where ideas are exchanged and events and activities are organised. Every parent is invited to the meetings and we alternate between daytime and evenings to accomodate parents with differing work and childcare commitments.

Each class in the school has two or three class reps who liaise closely with other parents of their class to keep them up to date with FOWA news and pass on their ideas and suggestions to the committee. Each year group is responsible (with members of the FOWA committee) for running two of our various events which happen during the school year. (Please see FOWA events).

The FOWA committee consists of five elected members, the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Vice-Treasurer and Secretary. Each committee member is usually in place for a period of two years. If you wish to contact anyone from FOWA, you can use the following email addresses or put a note in the FOWA box outside the office.

Events and Fundraising

The main events of the year include the fantastic Waverley Abbey Bonfire (an event for the whole local community), the Christmas Fair, the Easter Eggstravaganza and the not-to-be-missed "Waverley's Got Talent".

Other events may change from year to year but generally might include a quiznight, family fun day, cake sales and ice cream sales in the summer term.

Thanks to all the parents, staff and children that have helped to raise funds we have recently funded the following:

  • The roof for the swimming pool
  • The garden classroom
  • Christmas crackers for the school Christmas lunch
  • Stone benches
  • Wooden picnic benches
  • Digital cameras
